Raspberries: Big Nutrition With Few Calories

Berries are high in nutrition, and raspberries are among the best without adding many calories to your diet.

In fact, just one-half cup of raspberries will add only 32 calories to your plate but provide a whopping 4 grams of fiber. That’s just about the same amount you’d get from an apple, making this sweet berry a great addition to your plate.

Raspberries are also nutritious in other ways. Besides being an excellent source of fiber, they are very good sources of manganese (good for your bones) and vitamin C. Raspberries are also very high in antioxidants, even higher than blueberries (except wild blueberries) and strawberries.

To add to your health, raspberries may prevent certain cancers and they are good for your eyes and may prevent macular degeneration.

Like other berries, raspberries are easy to add to your daily menu. You can eat raspberries in your cereal or oatmeal for breakfast. Add them to your yogurt or salad at lunch. You can even add fiber to you dessert by adding some berries to your ice cream for a tasty treat.  To make a very popular side dish for dinner, mix raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries in a bowl.  It will be beautiful and nutritious.

Raspberries are one of the superfoods you can grow in your garden and reap a bountiful harvest year after year. If you have the room, grow more because you can freeze them as well to enjoy all winter long, and since you control the growing and freezing process you can freeze them immediately without any additives.

If you don’t have the room for raspberries of your own, get out the local farmer’s market in the summer or make a trip to a pick-your-own farm and make a habit of it.  Raspberries are just too nutritious to pass up.
